In 1980 I was holidaying in California and came upon a copy of “Bowhunting Records of California” in a San Francisco archery shop. When I returned to Alberta I checked the Pope & Young Record Book and was surprised to find that only 20 animals in total had ever been taken in Alberta that surpassed the Pope & Young’s minimum.
As an avid bowhunter myself and confident that bowhunting popularity in Alberta was going to grow tremendously, I started working with all of Alberta’s official Pope & Young measurers to record the Alberta records for posterity. My first publication, 28 years ago (1983), had only 78 animals that surpassed Pope & Young minimums. You will find in this years edition 3315 entries of 10 different Alberta species!
